We work to prevent blindness, preserve sight, and enhance and extend the quality of vision life for all residents of Texas. For almost 60 years, Prevent Blindness Texas has been responsible for saving the sight and enhancing the quality of vision for thousands of Texans. PBT touches the lives of thousands of Texans each year through public and professional education, advocacy, certified vision screener training, community outreach and patient service programs.
Internship Responsibilities:
This is an unpaid internship that provides hands-on community outreach experience in a nonprofit organization. Responsibilities include:
- Assisting with vision screenings, vision education and event planning
- Processing eye exam and eyeglass voucher applications for vision programs
- Collecting, organizing and entering data for vision screening and educational programs
- Attending, leading and representing Prevent Blindness Texas at community events
- Assisting with preparation for committee meetings, volunteer orientations and certification training courses
- Assisting with regional volunteer management including volunteer recruitment and training
- Assisting with publicity and marketing for community events
- Special projects
Qualifications:
- Must be a junior or senior level college student with strong written and verbal communication skills and excellent organizational skills
- Interest in public service or public health
- Keen attention to details with the ability to manage time wisely
- Previous experience with community outreach events a plus
